Easy Holiday Hairstyles

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season means plenty of opportunities to wear fancy outfits, shimmery jewelry, and fresh hairstyles. Finding the perfect holiday hairstyle for a family gathering, formal work party, or a night out on the town is easier than you think. Pair some of these styles with your favorite holiday outfit and you will be sure to impress all of the party guests.

Beach Waves

It may be below zero outside, but that doesn’t mean your hair has to be frozen too. Beach waves are perfect year-round, and will give a carefree look to any outfit. Apply a small amount of mousse to your hair before blow drying. Once the hair is dry, curl two inch sections around a large barrel curling iron. Once all the hair is curled, spray a flexible hold hairspray all over for a look that will last through the night.

Sleek and Straight

For a chic look, straighten dry hair with a flat iron until there are no waves. Finish with a smoothing pomade to tame flyaways and to add an extra shine to your hair. This smooth-as-silk hairstyle is an easy way to add a sophisticated edge to any outfit.

Braid it Up

There are so many ways to braid your hair. A classic three-section braid can be updated by adding a jeweled barrette to the top or you can weave a sprig of artificial holly in between the sections.

Fish-tail Braid

A fish-tail braid is another easy way to update this understated look. Gather hair into a side ponytail and separate into two sections. Pull a small section from one side and cross it over to the other section, creating an “x” pattern and pull tight. Repeat with the opposite section and continue until the entire pony has been braided. Tie with a pretty ribbon to finish it off like a pretty package.

Rocking the Bun

Buns are not just for ballerinas and busy moms, they can also add an elegant look to any holiday outfit. They are easy to do and take no time at all. A classic bun starts with pulling the hair back into a high ponytail with an elastic band. Twist the remaining hair around the elastic and fix the strands with several bobby pins to secure the bun. You can add a pretty headband to hold back any flyaways or use a flexible hold hairspray.

Braided Bun

Merge two classic hairstyles into one with a braided bun. Again, start with a high pony tail. Braid the remaining hair into a classic, three-section braid. Secure the braid at the bottom with an elastic band. Wrap the braid around the elastic like you would in a traditional bun, and secure with several bobby pins. This hairstyle will definitely last through a night of dancing to holiday music.

Go Bold

If you want to make a statement that will last the entire holiday season, consider cutting your bangs. This is an easy way to change up your look without having to put in any work. Bangs can be left down and straight, or swept to the side with a jeweled barrette. They look great with curly hair, straight hair, or an updo. Tame bangs with a flat iron if necessary to avoid any unwanted flyaway hairs.

Half and Half

A half-up, half-down look is not just for school-aged girls. With the proper technique, this style can make you look youthful and fresh. Starting with dry hair, separate the top half of your hair from the bottom half and secure with an elastic or barrette. You can add some waves with large barrel curling iron or leave it sleek and straight. Braid the top half of the hair into a classic, three-section braid to add more dimension to this look.

For a bohemian version of this look, take a two inch section of hair near your temple and braid it into a classic, three-section braid. Secure with an elastic band and repeat this process on the other side of your head. Pull both braided sections together in the back of the head and tie together with another elastic band. This look would be perfect for a casual family gathering or a night out with friends.

Side Swept

This easy hairstyle works with curly, straight, or wavy hair. Take a two inch section of dry hair near your temple, sweep it backwards and secure with a pretty barrette. This look is simple, elegant, and classy.

These holiday hairstyles will add a festive flair to your outfit without taking up all of your time. These looks will last all day so you can spend more time enjoying your family and friends and less time fixing your hair.
