The Best Mustache Styles for No Shave November

0

No Shave November is here, which means that it’s time to grow your mustaches, gents! The goal of Movember is to change the face of men’s health. For those looking to raise awareness about men’s health issues including prostate cancer, testicular cancer and suicide, it’s time to start thinking about what kind of facial hair style you’ll be embracing. There are plenty of fun options, and since it’s only for a month, there’s no reason not to try something new. We’ll be listing the top Movember styles, from the least to the most maintenance.

Low Maintenance

For the busy guy who just wants to raise some cash for cancer awareness, a low maintenance mustache is recommended. There are several styles to choose from, but they all focus on a natural looking facial hair.

Painter’s Brush

The Painters Brush is a type of mustache that covers the upper lip and only requires slight grooming and trimming.

Natural

Natural, is a natural looking mustache that doesn’t take much grooming.

Pyramid

The Pyramid requires tapering to come to a point under the nose. Then, the mustasche gets wider as it reaches the top lip.

Trucker

To achieve a Trucker mustache, grow the hair straight down. Then, trim the mustache once it starts to cover the top lip.

Copstache

Copstaches are similar to the trucker, but they are a bit more unkempt.

Horseshoe

A Horseshoe mustache is a great option for guys who have an abundance of facial hair. All this look requires is letting your mustache grow until it hits the bottom of your chin.

Half Horseshoe

If you can’t manage to grow your hair out fast enough for a horseshoe mustache, try a half horseshoe which only covers half of the upper lip.

Businessman

For people who need to keep their facial hair a little tighter, try the Businessman mustache. This mustache covers the top lip and is slightly wider. The Businessman mustache doesn’t grow straight down, just a little further out, and still looks professional.

Medium Maintenance

Mustaches that need a little more attention are certainly more fun, but they require more work, including shaping or wax.

Handlebar

Handlebar mustaches are a variation of the English mustache, (another medium maintenance style.) To achieve an English mustache, shape your mustache hair out past your top lip and allow it to grow into points that you shape with scissors. The Handlebar mustache requires you take those points and shape them with wax into that circular shape. This mustache might take more than a month to grow.

Dali

The Dali is very similar to the handlebar mustache, but it is a bit thinner and the hair is shaped into an upward curve, with no curlicues required. Both styles require mustache wax to pull off; however, the English can be done with just some basic shaping.

Van Dyke

You can transition the English to a Van Dyke by keeping your cheeks clear and growing a separate goatee.

Pencil

If you’re looking for a mustache that is a little less full, there’s also always the Pencil mustache, which is fairly simple to pull off. You have to shave your top lip every morning and leave a thin section of hair at the top of your mustache alone. This mustache will grow in pretty quickly.

High Maintenance

These mustaches are a lot of work as far as maintenance goes, but the payoff is pretty good.

Balbo

The Balbo is a high maintenance mustache that involves three parts: it has a mustache on top (that’s kept short and neat), a soul patch and a short beard covering the chin. This takes quite a bit of shaping and maintenance, but it will make you look like Iron Man.

Imperial

The Imperial is a great mustache for those who are looking for an old world style. This mustache blends into mutton chops on the sides and hits the top of the cheeks just like a beard does, but the rest of the face remains cleanly shaven.

Mutton Chop

A mutton chop or modified mutton chop, connects the mustache to the chops on the side of the face. This style might not be quite as current, but it is fun to try out for a month.

Zappa

The Zappa, is similar to the Balbo, but it just requires a soul patch and a very thick upper lip mustache. Frank Zappa made this style popular in the late seventies.

Since Movember is only a month, there is no reason not to try a new mustache style. It’s important to have fun, take good care of your facial hair and not to worry too much about the growing in stage. Remember, it’s all for a great cause and it’s also a fun way to raise awareness.
