A new exhibit, “Fool the Eye,” opens at the Nassau County Museum of Art. It will have you wondering — is it real or faux? Photography or a painting? Draw your own conclusions, depending on where you stand and what you see (or don’t see). Grab your hat and head to Northport’s LaMantia Gallery to enjoy the opening reception of “The Art of Dr. Seuss Rare Editions,” 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, and noon-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18. Call to reserve spots at the receptions. Jeff Schuffman, a representative from Dr. Seuss’ estate, will share stories and answer questions about the artist. The exhibit, which runs through Dec. 24, features a minimum of 50 pieces of rare works from three collections – “Secret Art,” “Unorthodox Taxidermy Sculpture” and “Illustrative Art.”

The BAFFA Art Gallery announces two exhibits during the month of November. From November 3rd through November 12th, La Familia will showcase the fine photography of Carol Amodeo and Dominick Chiuchiolo. Both are Long Island natives with different photographic styles and interests. Join the photographers for an artists’ reception on November 4th from 2-4 PM. From November 18th to 26th Bell Street Artists will present Artful Harvest at the Gallery. This is a chance for artists to sketch their favorite superhero or villain, as cosplay models pose for sketching during Dark Night Sketch Night. Bring your own supplies or get basic sketch materials for $5. A family-friendly, free photo-op kicks things off at 6 p.m. with characters including Harley Quinn, Batman, Catwoman and others, ready for their close-ups. Tickets: $25 advance / $30 door

Leroy and Loretta Lockhorn and the aptly named St. Bernard, Howard Huge, have entertained readers for decades. The bickering long-married Lockhorns and the affable oversized pet are the comic strip stars in a new exhibition at The Heckscher Museum of Art honoring the work of Long Island comic creators Bill and Bunny Hoest. The Lockhorns meet Howard Huge: Comic Cartoons by Bill & Bunny Hoest is on view October 6 to November 5, 2017.
