Using native plants in a home garden can reduce maintenance and the need for frequent watering. Local gardeners can learn more about the topic from Sue Avery at the next Massapequa Park Garden Club meeting on Wednesday, May 16. She will speak on going native in suburbia and designing with native plants for a dynamic garden in touch with the natural world. The meeting will start at 7:30 pm and is open to the public. This year’s theme is Hats Off to Spring. The program will be a demonstration of floral arrangements by Gail Klubnick and Sue Jaccard Baeyens from Tim’s Florist. Their lovely arrangements will then be auctioned off. Other raffles will include gift baskets and gift cards from local merchants. There will be a 50/50 drawing and a repeat of last year’s popular bakeshop. Coffee, tea and baked goods will be served. The fun raising begins at 7 pm on Wednesday, April 18.
