VIRTUAL/IN-PERSON: Remember Liss

Join historian and author Claire Bellerjeau as she discusses the discovery of a new founding figure named Elizabeth, or Liss, who was enslaved by the Townsend family of Oyster Bay. As the story unfolds, prominent figures cross her path, including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Benedict Arnold, John Graves Simcoe, John André, and John Adams. Liss also comes across the Culper Spy Ring, the Boston Massacre, the Battle of Long Island, and the Benedict Arnold treason plot. This is a Zoom presentation that will be shown in the library or can be viewed from home. In-person: No registration required.
