Say hello to friends,
old or new:
Call a loved one. Meet an old friend
for coff ee. Introduce yourself to a new
friend once a week. Social connection
is hugely important for mental health.
Th is is especially true for seniors who
could be grieving the loss of family and
friends who have either moved away or
passed.
Attending a fun class at a local community
center is a wonderful way to get out
of isolation and make new friends with
shared interests. According to Mayo
Clinic geriatrician Amit A. Shah, M.D.,
“interaction with others is exercise for
your brain – it’s one of the best ways to
improve cognitive fl exibility.” ❧
