SOUTH SHORE AUDUBON SOCIETY OFFERS
SCHOLARSHIPS
The South Shore Audubon Society is offering two $2,000
college scholarships this year: one funded by Evelyn Bishop
and her family, and one funded by Jay Koolpix. Each scholarship
will be awarded to a different college junior, senior,
or graduate student who is taking courses to prepare for a
degree in an area of biological or environmental science.
This includes wildlife management, forestry, animal behavior,
ecology, marine biology, oceanography, mammalogy,
ornithology or the fi eld of sustainable and renewable energy.
To be eligible for the Scholarships, applicants must be
residents of one of the areas listed at www.ssaudubon.org/
areas-we-serve.asp and/or attend a college in Nassau or
Suffolk County. Applications are available at the SSAS
website, www.ssaudubon.org, or from the emails listed
below. Applications are due by April 30, 2025. They should
be emailed to either Betsy Gulotta, betsy.gulotta@ncc.edu,
or Betty Borowsky, bborow@optonline.net.

COLLEGE AND CAREER FAIR
WSCA presents its College and career fair, April 28,
2025 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Hauppauge High School.
This event is free and open to all students and parents.
College representatives will be on hand to answer questions
and offer information. Students are encouraged
to register ahead of time to make their fair visit more

A scholarship will be awarded to one lucky attendee!!
PET FOOD DRIVE
Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C-Merrick) is promoting
his 14th Annual pet food drive to make sure pets in our
area don’t go hungry. The pet food drive will run through
the end of May and will benefi t Long Island Cares, Baxter’s
Pet Pantry. The most needed items are bagged food, canned
food, kitty litter and pet toys. Please ensure that all pet food
is unopened. Those wishing to donate can drop off pet food
at 404 Bedford Ave, Bellmore, NY, Monday through Friday
from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This drive will run through the
end of May, and we ask that all pet food be unopened and
in its original packaging. All food will go to Long Island
Cares, Baxter’s Pet Pantry. Thank you for your generosity
